PRINT GUIDELINES
Paper dimensions must be 20x20 cm - super important!
Smaller ones are hard to count among other prints, and larger ones might not fit in the boxes and could get damaged.
The image can be any size or shape on the paper, including ‘full bleed’ and there is no specific topic or theme.
Please always print, order and number an edition of 25, labelled 1/25 - 25/25.
It’s important to note that artists don’t receive their own prints back.If you want to print more for yourself, please don’t raise the edition but start anew.
Please sign and clearly label each print on either the front or back with:
You could add extra information such as your Instagram handle or website if you wish, for people receiving your print to look you up and connect.
All traditional ‘hand-made’ printmaking methods are encouraged and welcomed.
Whilst Risograph prints are acceptable, work should not be a reproduction, photocopy or ‘Giclee’ print.
We encourage original works made specifically for this Exchange, but you can also submit prints created re-working older plates or designs.
Please use good quality, printmaking paper, usually ranging from 90gsm to 320gsm: lighter weight Japanese papers are also suitable.
It’s also possible to print on fabric, but please bear in mind that prints should be able to fit into our boxes with 19 other prints, and should not be too heavy or thick.
When planning your prints, make sure to allow enough time for them to dry completely before submission, especially with lino prints as drying might take a while.
We've had some sticky situations in the past that made counting difficult for our volunteers and even risk damaging other prints in the box.
And, relevant to that, please do not add anything to your print that could ‘shed’, such as glitter, as it will stick to and ruin any slightly tacky prints that are in a box.
Please do not interleave your prints with tissue, glassine or newsprint. Let’s think about the planet!
Please keep in mind whoever receives your prints can use them however they want, just like you can with the prints you get!
For us to facilitate and make our print exchange happen, we need permission from all artists to use their prints.
Don't worry, we'll handle them with care and respect.
Your prints will play a big role in our mission to share printmaking with as many people as possible!
